CORONA BOREALIS, by INEZ BARCLAY KIRBY First Line: I lie tonight beside the quiet sea Last Line: Oh, search this shore and miss me, starry crown. Subject(s): Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
I lie tonight beside the quiet sea And watch the constellations wing through space; Alone, Corona holds her lofty place, Her tempered jewels gleaming down at me. O Wreath of Stars, what hand of Majesty Stationed your gems with such consummate grace? What mystery troubles every upturned face That ponders your unchanging symmetry? I claim some subtle kinship, though your light Has journeyed tireless toward me through the skies Age after age until it reached my eyes And found its wondering welcome here tonight. And when my soul has laid its burden down, Oh, search this shore and miss me, Starry Crown. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN THE IMPOSSIBLE INDISPENSIBILITY OF THE ARS POETICA by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
