HONEYMOON CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, by ANGELA KRUEGER First Line: Two by two they enter the land of honeymoon Subject(s): Marriage; Weddings; Husbands; Wives | ||||||||
Two by two they enter the Land of Honeymoon oblivious to chemical dumps and abandoned warehouses lining the route; the way into tinsel town, a slippery chute. Under the arch and into the snow, toward the Holiday Inn cocoon. Having tied the knot and taken the dough, he sighs, undoes her blouse's buttons. She slides a shiny-ringed hand along his thigh. Honey! Moon-sized mylar balloons in the back seat rub & rise, dip & croon, along for the ride. Kiddo, why'd we bother with those M'ckey Mouses? Exit ramp. Route 62. Tinsel Town's slippery chute. Next morning, player pigeons strut the streets in black & prune vestments, bobbing-headed rabbis of the walks. Bird City. Gulls carouse the gray middle ground between two countries. Enter the Loons. Two by two. Honeymoon cartoon. This is the town that marriage made, where houses sink into Love Canal. Where thunder lifts hope-feathered flocks, reeling & squawking above the passionate battering of Earth's original icecap, trapped & swollen between walls of shale & dolomite. Undertow for two, dazzled en route. This is the way in, a slippery chute.
