OUR CLUB CREED, by MARION LE FLORE First Line: Lord, the newness of the day Last Line: That's the way to heaven. Subject(s): Clubs (associations); Faith; Belief; Creed | ||||||||
Lord, the newness of the day Calls us to the untried way. May we, when face to face in our Club meeting, Be not hasty in judgment, but gentle in greeting. All our faultfinding take away, And any pretense or prejudice, we pray. From us all pettiness wilt Thou keep, So that thoughts of self we will not seek. Let us be unafraid, for all things take time, Be broad-minded, generous, always kind; Be straightforward, serene, and calm; Our impulses better, with no thought of harm. Help us to realize that differences create Thoughts of jealousy, strife, and hate. Let our words and deeds be so done That in big things of life we are as one. May we strive always ever to be Large in thought, more like Thee. To us the gift of peace restore -- Touch our hearts with goodness once more. Let us take today, and do our part As our part is given, For that's the way to woman's heart; That's the way to Heaven. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 4 by MARK JARMAN QUIA ABSURDUM by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET TO FORTUNE by LUCY AIKEN JONATHAN EDWARDS IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS by ROBERT LOWELL RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION by MINA LOY THE SERE AND YELLOW LEAF by KAREN SWENSON SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 4 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
