SPRING AND DAWN, by J. LE MAIRE DE BELGES First Line: Trees newly leaved and dressed afresh in green Last Line: Aurora views. Subject(s): Dawn; Sunrise | ||||||||
TREES newly leaved and dressed afresh in green, While winter lasts we see you sere and dried, But now restored, not one of you is seen Uncomely; Nature spreads o'er you her sheen, Rich colours, flowers and blooms on every side. Tremble no more, nor shake, nor seek to hide, Be ye all joyful now and flourishing, For zephyr blows and bids the blossoms spring. Now village maids Their loves declare 'Neath hazel shades, Tender and fair. And flow'rets rare And nut and berry, Apple and pear Blooms for their hair, They pick and share, And all are merry. As soon as e'er Aurora Queen of flowers To the young buds restores their varied hues, Night flees away with all its baneful powers, Dispersing sorrow, tears and doleful hours; And without loss the vigorous wealth renews Of fruitful orchards and green meads, with which Pan makes his faithful train of shepherds rich. Owls shun the light, Snakes crawl from sight, Fierce wolves take flight Whom shepherds fright And Pan pursues; Birds sing with joy, Stags sport and toy, Fields beauty clad, All Nature glad, Aurora views. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BURNING DAWN by HAYDEN CARRUTH DAWN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON IN THE GARDEN AT THE DAWN HOUR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS EARLY RISER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE WORDS WHEN WE NEED THEM by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE STREET WINDOW by CARL SANDBURG |
