I sit at the rosewood table Before the waiting sheet, And I rest my chin on my folded hand. I wish that I were able To write love songs as those of Hafiz sweet, For her whom I adore. But my thoughts fly to her door Like leaves swift winds command. Somewhere a nightingale Sings in the summer sky, I know its voice, and I stand at the window to hearken. And as the far notes fail I sit again at the table, and I Write words of love that fall Swiftly to my call And swiftly from my pen the pages darken. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY THE CURTAIN by TRISTAN LECLERE |
