AN OLD DESIRE, by FRANCIS LEDWIDGE Poet's Biography First Line: I searched thro' memory's lumber-room Last Line: And there are ruins in my fire. Subject(s): Desire; Earth; Memory; Ruins; World | ||||||||
I SEARCHED thro' memory's lumber-room And there I found an old desire, I took it gently from the gloom To cherish by my scanty fire. And all the night a sweet-voiced one, Sang of the place my loves abide, 'Til Earth leaned over from the dawn And hid the last star in her side. And often since, when most alone, I ponder on my old desire, But never hear the sweet-voiced one, And there are ruins in my fire. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN BALANCE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SUBJECTED EARTH by ROBINSON JEFFERS GEOMETAPHYSICS by MARGARET AVISON NIAGARA by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN I SEE CHILE IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR by AGHA SHAHID ALI WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL THE EARTH IS A LIVING THING by LUCILLE CLIFTON EVENING CLOUDS by FRANCIS LEDWIDGE |
