A LONELY MAN, by AGNES LEE Poet's Biography First Line: It's lonely in lodgings above the street Last Line: If you come into a house or go out of it. Alternate Author Name(s): Freer, Otto, Mrs. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | |||
It's lonely in lodgings above the street When dusk slows down the day's long laboring, With only a nod to a lad on the stair, And neither kith nor kin to be neighboring. It must be good to go out of a house With the soft goodbye of your loved one spoken, And a windowful of little faces Smiling you off as you wave in token. It must be good to come back to a house, And hear the joy, the welcoming shout of it. It must be good to have anyone care If you come into a house or go out of it. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES |
