STRUCTURE, by CAROLINE MAXWELL LEE First Line: Against the primrose twilight rise outspread Last Line: Reveals the grace implicit in his kind. | ||||||||
Against the primrose twilight rise outspread The lacy fans of unleafed winter trees; I mark from trunk to outmost dusky thread The structure, perfect as a symphony's. Below the earth, as mirrored in a pool -- Reversed in stem and tendril-coils, that bear The rising sap, life giving, strong and cool -- The roots repeat the structure of the air. Soon fluttered curls and ruffles of young leaves Will flute along each air-swept arc, to free In opulence of summer's plumy sheaves The splendor destined to the perfect tree; As one who, strong of soul and great of mind, Reveals the grace implicit in his kind. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HYMN TO THE NAIADS by MARK AKENSIDE WAYCONNELL TOWER by WILLIAM ALLINGHAM STAGE SETTING KANSAS by BERNICE GIBBS ANDERSON INSCRIPTION IN NETHER STOREY CHURCH IN MEMORY OF RICHARD CAMPLIN by WILLIAM LISLE BOWLES |
