First Line: Swift spirit of truth, unfaltering I pursue
Last Line: Then, though you flee, I follow, follow still!
Subject(s): Truth

Swift spirit of Truth, unfaltering I pursue
Your flying feet; -- an imprint on the strand,
A wisp of song blown by old winds that fanned
The fires on Moloch's altars or that blew
Christ's words across the world -- and then the clue
Is lost in fog that creeps along the sand;
Too often dusk sifts down on a barren land;
That yields me neither sign nor sound of you.
"Truth is a phantom," mocking voices say,
But vain is doubt and all derision vain,
For I have seen torn scarves of April rain
Flung from your shoulders as you sped away,
Your breath makes sweet the rose and daffodil; --
Then, though you flee, I follow, follow still!
