BASTARD, by MERLE LEMBECK First Line: Afar to the luring west Last Line: A man-made sun of fire. Subject(s): Children - Illegitimate; Birth - Out Of Wedlock; Bastards | ||||||||
Afar to the luring west Against the darkening sky I see a blazing crest, A gem, on the Quaker breast Of the earth. Its shimmering ray Gives a faint ethereal tinge Of rose to the delicate fringe Of dusky clouds above. Entranced, perplexed, I gaze Through the mist of twilight haze; For just one hour ago I watched the sun in its regal glow Descend to the realms of night. I turn away, depressed; I fear the sun which lights My heart's own dreamed-of west, And fills my soul's desire, May prove a bastard crest A man-made sun of fire. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SATIRES OF CIRCUMSTANCE: 11.
