A SAIL, by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: White is the sail and lonely Last Line: As though in the storms were rest. Alternate Author Name(s): Lermontov, Mikhail Yuryevich | ||||||||
WHITE is the sail and lonely On the misty infinite blue; Flying from what in the homeland? Seeking for what in the new? The waves romp, and the winds whistle, And the mast leans and creaks; Alas! He flies not from fortune, And no good fortune he seeks. Beneath him the stream, luminous, azure, Above him the sun's golden breast; But he, a rebel, invites the storms, As though in the storms were rest. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAPTIVE KNIGHT by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV CIRCASSIAN SONG by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV CLOUDS by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV COSSACK CRADLE SONG by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV COSSACK CRADLE-SONG by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV DAGGER by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV DREAM by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV GRATITUDE by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV GRATITUDE (1) by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV HOPE by MIKHAIL YUREVICH LERMONTOV |
