A PRAYER, by MABEL ROSE LEVY First Line: Be patient, lord, and suffer us awhile Last Line: And take us to eternal life with thee. Subject(s): Prayer | ||||||||
Be patient, Lord, and suffer us awhile, Help us to set our feet upon the way That leads to Thee. Keep us from grievous sin And cleanse our hearts from love of self. We pray For grace to learn humility -- to learn To turn the other cheek. It is so hard To purge our souls of prejudice, dear Lord! Be with us everywhere, and when at last Our fight is won, our souls from sin set free -- Then give us fortitude to face the end, And take us to eternal life with Thee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY |
