WISCONSIN WINTER NIGHT, by
First Line: The moon, cold empress of the night
Last Line: With zero breath the day awakes.
Subject(s): Night; Winter; Bedtime

The moon, cold Empress of the night,
Rides high above the steeps of snow.
Great stars send forth their clear white light
Upon the ice clad earth below.

Strong winter winds shriek over the hill,
Drifts swirl before his frigid blow.
He howls around the silent mill;
Stilled race and pond like mirrors glow.

His icy hand lone hamlet grips,
Then sweeps across the cobalt lakes.
Deserted lanes his fury whips.
With zero breath the day awakes.
