SERVITUDE, by JAMES CHRISTIAN LINDBERG First Line: I had a tryst, long years ago Last Line: Something was lost beyond recall. Subject(s): Nature; Past | ||||||||
I had a tryst, long years ago, Upon a rustic, sun-kissed hill, Where friendly birches beckoned me To dance with them in quaint quadrille. But chores came first; in duty's thrall ... Something was lost beyond recall. I had a tryst in later years, Upon a wind-blown, mountain crest, Where pine trees summoned me to sing The song enwombed within my breast. But crowded marts held me in thrall ... Something was lost beyond recall. Today the fetters broke. I sought The wind-blown crest, the sun-kissed hill. A heedless world should hear my song, My feet should dance in quaint quadrille. But birches, pines stood silent all ... Something was lost beyond recall. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR COMPARISON by JAMES CHRISTIAN LINDBERG |
