SONG A THE DOCK'S END, by JOSEPH ELDRIDGE LOFTUS First Line: Wan moon of hope, the drenching fog has closed Last Line: Inertia is death!! And I am death. Subject(s): Pain; Suffering; Misery | ||||||||
Wan moon of hope, the drenching fog has closed, The murky night is filled with phantom hands, The opaque clouds trail down as if imposed To gather from the glass-faced sea commands For future mutual calamities. Uncertain moon, my face is dark with doubt, My cowl of misery, like yours, is drawn; My fires of confidence are dampened out. What hope for hopeless man? How soon will dawn Deliver me from twined perplexities? The vap'rous sky has cupped me in a cell, The clinging fog denies me scene and sound; My panic-racing thoughts I cannot quell, As demon whisperings all plans confound! Inertia is death!! And I am death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PARTHENOPHIL AND PARTHENOPHE: MADRIGAL 14 by BARNABE BARNES SONNETS IN SHADOWS: 1 by ARLO BATES IN PRAISE OF PAIN by HEATHER MCHUGH THE SYMPATIZERS by JOSEPHINE MILES LEEK STREET by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BLACK MOONLIGHT by JOSEPH ELDRIDGE LOFTUS |
