SILVER WINGS, by PHYLLIS A. LORING First Line: O swift and graceful wings that boldly fly Last Line: Will raise courageous wings and fly today. Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form); Wings | ||||||||
O swift and graceful wings that boldly fly Through azure space with cheerful humming sound, Far over solemn hills your engines pound: Are you as happy speeding there as I? A pulse is whirled from earth to occupy A throne because of love which it has found. How swiftly your propellor turns around A joyful rhythmic urge to satisfy. O silver wings, beyond the earthly scope Of jealous harm, I am at once inspired To test the power of faith and will survey The globe: my motor starts and, fueled with hope, My stoic spirit, leaving business mired, Will raise courageous wings and fly today. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ESTATE SALE: THE SCRABBLE GAME OF A DEAD WOMAN by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE FREED FROM ANOTHER CONTEXT by ELEANOR WILNER THE BIRD IN THE LAUREL'S SONG by ELEANOR WILNER THE LITERAL = THE ABSTRACT: A DEMONSTRATION by ELEANOR WILNER |
