ANOTHER SLEEP, by C. ALBERT LOUGHTON First Line: It was almost spring today Last Line: While they have another sleep. Subject(s): Winter | ||||||||
It was almost spring today -- For I heard Spring, as a jaunty bird With a breast of rusty red Sang with a tilted head. And I saw The sun grow warm and draw Into the light a blade From sleep in winter's shade. But a boy Came with his Christmas toy And left the bird of red Silenced with rigid head. Then came a gust To whirl away the dust, And the clouds drew near to place A cloth of starry lace. It was almost spring today -- But now the blade And the bird in the glade Are in God's watchful keep While they have another sleep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING EAST IN THE WINTER by JOHN HOLLANDER WINTER DISTANCES by FANNY HOWE WINTER FORECAST by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN AT WINTER'S EDGE by JUDY JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE |
