I LOVE ACACIA, by EDITH LOVELL First Line: Once when I was very young Last Line: Akin to youth and my ideal. Subject(s): Acacia; Aging; Trees; Youth | ||||||||
Once when I was very young And still had faith that I could be Like certain dreams to which I clung, An invitation came to me . . . I wore acacia as I stood With other "pledges" in a line And vowed to make my womanhood Into a model strong and fine. But years are fleet and I forget Just what it was I longed to be And though I know I could not fit The pattern that is lost to me -- Acacia still can make me feel Akin to youth and my ideal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN |
