IN SPRING, SANTA BARBARA, by SARA TEASDALE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: I have been happy two weeks together Last Line: My heart sings only when it breaks Alternate Author Name(s): Filsinger, Ernest B., Mrs. Subject(s): Spring; Togetherness | |||
I have been happy two weeks together, My love is coming home to me, Gold and silver is the weather And smooth as lapis is the sea. The earth has turned its brown to green After three nights of humming rain, And in the valleys peck and preen Linnets with a scarlet stain. High in the mountains all alone The wild swans whistle on the lakes, But I have been as still as stone, My heart sings only when it breaks. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A WOMAN WITH FLAXEN HAIR IN NORFOLK HEARD by ROBERT KELLY YESTERDAY FROM MY FEVER by GALWAY KINNELL IF YOU COULD COME SOFTLY by AUDRE LORDE MISGIVINGS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SILENT IN THE MOONLIGHT by ROBERT BLY |
