WHEN DADDY'S SHIP COMES IN, by
First Line: O daddy, can I have a bike'
Last Line: "if we have faith in dad."
Subject(s): Ships & Shipping

"O Daddy, can I have a bike,
A bat and ball that I can strike,
And all the other things I'd like?
My toys are torn and old."
My Daddy answered with a grin,
"Why, sure, my son, when my ship comes in,
If a good boy each day you've been --
You're worth your weight in gold."

"Oh, do you mean," I cried in glee,
"A ship will bring these things to me?
And can you tell how long 'twill be
Before your ship comes in?"
"Just ask your mother, little man:
If anyone can tell, she can."
Then whistling off my Daddy ran,
His face still all a-grin.
My mother looked up wistfully,
"Sometimes these ships are long at sea;
Sometimes --" she paused and smiled at me --
"They don't come in, my lad.
But I am sure our Daddy's ship
Will dock some day from its long trip,
And treasures from its decks will slip --
If we have faith in Dad."
