LOST LANDS, by CHARLES HENRY MACKINTOSH Poet's Biography First Line: I have seen faery lands far out to sea Last Line: And wonder, as I do, why they must wait! Subject(s): Atlantis; Avalon (legend); Legends; Mythology - Classical | ||||||||
I have seen faery lands far out to sea At sunset, when the clouds are quiet and low, Close clinging to the ocean's rim, aglow With tints of gold and gilded ivory. Strangely, they have the look of home to me -- Visions of far away and long ago, Of deep-lost lands I used to love and know: Atlantis . . . Avalon . . . Arcady? Perhaps old friends, lost friends, people those lands, They that have long forgotten fear and hate. Perhaps, with smiling lips and outstretched hands, With welcomes soundless but importunate, They wait for me upon those luminous strands And wonder, as I do, why they must wait! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#11): 1.
