THE BULLFROG, by DOUGLAS MALLOCH Poet's Biography First Line: The bullfrog he isn't some beautiful bird Last Line: He could jump in the lake and get out of the wet. Subject(s): Animals; Frogs | ||||||||
The bullfrog he isn't some beautiful bird, But I notice a bullfrog will sing in the rain. When the swallow shuts up and no robin is heard Then the bullfrog keeps singing his cheery refrain, Just his merry ker-chunk -- there, he's at it again! Oh, the fair-weather bird sings a fair-weather song When the sun's in the east and the blue in the sky, But if only a rain-storm comes roaming along Then the fair-weather bird finds a hole that is dry And he hides him away till the clouds have rolled by. But the bullfrog! Uh, uh! Does the bullfrog? Oh, no! No, he isn't a fair-weather friend, you can bet. For the knows we want song when the sky's dripping woe, So he sits on a log and keeps singing -- and yet He could jump in the lake and get out of the wet. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...YOUNG BULLFROGS by CARL SANDBURG SMALL FROGS KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY by JAMES WRIGHT ASSAULT by EDNA ST.
