ALL SOULS' EVE, by MARY E. MANNIX Poet's Biography First Line: Wild the sea clamors from its echoing caves Last Line: "orate pro nobis!" Subject(s): All Souls' Night; All Hallows Night | ||||||||
Wild the sea clamors from its echoing caves, But other voices rise above the waves: "As now you are, O friends, so once were we; As now we are, so one day you shall be!" And still they rise and plead and hurry by, Sobbing and breaking in that long, sad cry -- "Orate pro nobis!" Father of all, be merciful to all! Hold not these faithful servants long in thrall; Open to them Thy blessed dwelling-place, Hide not too long the glory of Thy face. Mother of pity, harken to that cry, Cleaving the clouds, and quivering to the sky -- "Orate pro nobis!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ALL SOUL'S DAY by THEODOSIA (PICKERING) GARRISON ALL-HALLOWS EVE by FRANCIS LEDWIDGE ALL SOULS' NIGHT by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS ALL SOULS' EVE by FLORENCE KILPATRICK MIXTER ALL SOULS' EVE by DORA SIGERSON SHORTER ALL SOULS' NIGHT by DORA SIGERSON SHORTER ALL SOULS' NIGHT by KATHARINE TYNAN A LITTLE GIRL'S PRAYER by KATHERINE MANSFIELD TO THE MEMORY OF BEN JONSON by JOHN CLEVELAND |
