MADAME D'ALBERT'S [OR D'ALBRET'S] LAUGH, by CLEMENT MAROT Poet's Biography First Line: Yes! That fair neck, too beautiful by half Last Line: But only that sweet laugh wherewith she slays me. Subject(s): Beauty; Love; Women | ||||||||
YES! that fair neck, too beautiful by half, Those eyes, that voice, that bloom, all do her honor; Yet, after all, that little giddy laugh Is what, in my mind, sits the best upon her. Good God! 'twould make the very streets and ways, Through which she passes, burst into a pleasure! Did melancholy come to mar my days And kill me in the lap of too much leisure, No spell were wanting, from the dead to raise me, But only that sweet laugh wherewith she slays me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER A WOMAN'S DELUSION by SUSAN HOWE JULIA TUTWILER STATE PRISON FOR WOMEN by ANDREW HUDGINS THE WOMEN ON CYTHAERON by ROBINSON JEFFERS TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LADIES FOR DINNER, SAIPAN by KENNETH KOCH GOODBYE TO TOLERANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV THE POSY RING by CLEMENT MAROT |
