LILIES IN THEIR ARMS, by HAZEL S. MARSHALL First Line: There will be brides in june-time; they will go Last Line: Remember brides are tender, fragile things. Subject(s): Brides; Dreams; Flowers; June; Lilies; Nightmares | ||||||||
There will be brides in June-time; they will go From petalled aisles with lilies in their arms, Unknowing that the future holds alarms, That hours which might pass swiftly can be slow. Oh, sweet is June when love is new and all The world is fair as one home yet to be When heaven comes to earth and ecstasy Is in each flower and each sweet bird-call. Break not the spell and let no word be spoken; Say not the road to love is sometimes rough, Nor intimate that dreams of life are broken. On broken dreams love's homes stand strong enough, But while love is a fledgling trying wings, Remember brides are tender, fragile things. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF WISDOM WITH TIME by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS CHRISTMAS TREES; A CHRISTMAS CIRCULAR LETTER by ROBERT FROST |
