A MOTHER'S SONG, by LELIA S. MARSTALLER First Line: My son, your country is calling Last Line: And I am one of the mothers. . . . Subject(s): Mothers; Nations; War | ||||||||
My son, your country is calling. It is calling you to its service. You and your brother are needed In defense that "is second to none". My son, your country is calling, And what is that which it calls service? In your books a knight with his armor, In your history a soldier in battle. My son, your country is calling. Look not in old books for instructions; Read what lands today do for service, What they call "defense of the loyal". My son, your country is calling. Your warring brothers in service Drop bombs of disease, death and torture On women and children and babies. My son, your country is calling, So take your place in the service. The little children are waiting, Go bomb them along with their mothers, My son, you are one of the children And I am one of the mothers. . . . | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...I AM YOUR WAITER TONIGHT AND MY NAME IS DIMITRI by ROBERT HASS MITRAILLIATRICE by ERNEST HEMINGWAY RIPARTO D'ASSALTO by ERNEST HEMINGWAY WAR VOYEURS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL THE SURVIVOR AMONG GRAVES by RANDALL JARRELL SO MANY BLOOD-LAKES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE INARTICULATE by LELIA S.
