SUNSET IN MARCH, by EVA MARTIN Poet's Biography First Line: All day the busy wind had swept the sky Last Line: Of angels crowding round his royal bed. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
ALL day the busy wind had swept the sky, And now great seas of pure, translucent blue Rolled stainless overhead, while evening threw O'er all the world her veil of azure dye. The leafless trees stretched longing hands on high To catch the sun's last kisses, ere he drew Behind the westward-driven clouds that flew To shield him when his hour of death was nigh. He was engulfed in floods of rapturous flame. The desolate trees with ghostly whisperings Saw him depart. Soft clouds with silent tread Host upon host more closely pressing came; Till all the west was filled with crimson wings Of angels crowding round his royal bed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE IN DARKNESS LOST by EVA MARTIN |
