BEAUTY MARKS AN URGE, by HALLIE DAVIS MASS First Line: The grass returns to spears of brilliant green Last Line: Beauty is as old as the love of god. Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
The grass returns to spears of brilliant green, And lilacs tip their branches with gay plumes, On lively trees bird choruses convene To warble songs through orchards' choice perfumes. Now earth is eager, life reflects her mood, For wounds that deepened in the wintertime Assuage, as Spring with flower and feathered brood Proclaims renascent joy in ardent pantomime. Beauty marks an urge ancient as the sun, In caroling of birds, in budded rod; And Spring with earth a joyous thing has done . . . Beauty is as old as the love of God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SHANE ONEILLS CAIRN by ROBINSON JEFFERS TO GOD THE FATHER by KATHERINE MANSFIELD |
