TO MALHERBE, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: One who like you can rarely sing
Last Line: Great poets to the hospital.
Subject(s): Malherbe, Francois De (1555-1628)

ONE who like you can rarely sing
Should have enriched his family
With as much money as the king
Did in the Louvre vaults lay by.
But poesy is prized no more,
And bards inspired who highest soar
The prince's favour never share.
Malherbe! in this base age and small
Winged Pegasus but serves to bear
Great poets to the hospital.
