LATE SUMMER, by CLYDE MCGEE First Line: How I rejoice in thy delights Last Line: And dwell alone with fantasy. Subject(s): Happiness; Summer; Joy; Delight | ||||||||
How I rejoice in thy delights, Glorious days and rapturous nights! Wandering streams and ripening fields, And feasts that thy rich bounty yields! The scented air, the sparkling dews, And wine that life's full joy renews! But from thy look thou dost intend Thy glorious pageant now shall end; The leaves are turning, skies are grey, With us thou canst no longer stay, Capricious guest, wilt thou depart And leave me with a saddened heart? Deep in my mood contemplative All things I prize seem fugitive; That to which I most fondly cling Doth mock me with its vanishing. I part with all reality And dwell alone with fantasy. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
