Last Line: It seems that I must speak, or I shall die!
Subject(s): Speech; Oratory; Orators

I cannot speak the thoughts
That crowd my throat to aching;
I cannot speak the dreams
That fill my heart to breaking.

Yet when in spring I see the pear tree keeping
Her fragrant, snowy tapers lifted high;
Or sometimes, when I watch a baby sleeping;
Or when an old man smiling totters by;
Or sometimes, when a butterfly goes winging
Its fragile way across a windy sky;
Or sometimes, when I hear a young girl singing --
It seems that I must speak, or I shall die!
