PEACE, by NELLE MCGINNIS First Line: In god's own temple by the wooded hill Last Line: All came to me, that day, within this shrine. Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; The Resurrection | ||||||||
In God's own temple by the wooded hill, I sat in quiet peace on Easter Day, Upon a ledge where I could feel the spray Of cooling mist above the falling rill. The only sound that came to break the still Was silver notes of birds, that sang as they Would pause in flight, to hear the breezes play Upon their flutes and harps with magic skill. Then all of life's drear winter days slipped by And were forgotten in this holy hour I walked alone with God, beneath the sky, Whose beauty filtered through this leafy bower; And peace and love and thoughts that were divine All came to me, that day, within this shrine. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS SPANISH EASTER: 1926 by CONRAD AIKEN A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1) by GILBERT KEITH CHESTERTON |
