THE ETA, by
First Line: When I told you I was an eta I saw you start
Last Line: Or so you thought.
Subject(s): Japan; Kindness; Social Classes; Japanese; Caste

WHEN I told you I was an Eta I saw you start.
Though you are kind, I know you cannot forget.
Your kindness hurts.
I see always the bridge by which I told you.
In its shadow you hid your face,
So that I might not see you start.
Or so you thought.
