Love is red as the rose
Under the summer's light;
Soon must the year enclose
All in a veil of white.

Death is white as the snows
Over the mountain spread;
Spring shall come, and the rose
Blossom again in red.

Warm is the heart of the rose
Dreaming of summer's light,
Warm is the heart that knows
Message of red and white.
