COME, LET US AGREE, by BEATRICE S. MEDDINS First Line: We quarreled last night / know the reason why? Last Line: And to let you be you. Subject(s): Generosity; Quarrels; Arguments; Disagreements | ||||||||
We quarreled last night. Know the reason why? Because you are you, And because I am I. If you could be I, You might perhaps see That I am as I Was intended to be. If I could be you, Some things I might see Of the cause of the "Is" And the why of the "Be." Two-thirds of your world Is to half of mine hid. My price on your life Is, perhaps, a blind bid. Two-thirds of my world Is to half of yours hid, Which makes your conclusion Another blind bid. So, let us be large, Enough generous, too, To let me be me And to let you be you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE QUARREL by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DOMESDAY BOOK: CHARLES WARREN, THE SHERIFF by EDGAR LEE MASTERS OUR PRINCIPAL by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE OWEN SEAMAN; ESTABLISHES ENTENE CORDIALE IN MANNER GUY WETMORE CARRYL by LOUIS UNTERMEYER AFTER THE QUARREL by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR THE SOCIETY UPON THE STANISLAUS by FRANCIS BRET HARTE EARLY EVENING QUARREL by JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES A SONG OF ETERNITY IN TIME by SIDNEY LANIER |
