THE GIFT, by EMMA VORIES MEYER First Line: Well done, thou faithful servant. Enter now Last Line: For lo, his gift lay buried in a dream! Alternate Author Name(s): Meyer, Emma Voorhees Subject(s): Gifts & Giving; Jesus Christ | ||||||||
"Well done, thou faithful servant. Enter now Into thy joys!" And then He turned to me. 'What hast thou done with that I gave to thee?" He took me by surprise! I wondered how He came so soon! For I had made a vow To take the little gift of low degree And make it flourish like a mighty tree With gifts of luscious fruit on every bough. And so I could not face the Holy Son Of God. Although my silence made me seem Ungrateful that he gave to me the one Small gift that I had hoped to make supreme. I wept that He should see what I had done. For lo, His gift lay buried in a dream! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
