SINCERITY, by INEZ BARTLEY MEYER First Line: Dear god, I wonder if you heard Last Line: That it was meant to be. Subject(s): Prayer | ||||||||
Dear God, I wonder if you heard The prayer I said tonight, Beside a bath-tub, on my knees, There in the candle light? Perhaps I laughed a little bit Even while I prayed, And yet I didn't want to wait For I was half afraid I might forget to thank You for Each little dimpled fist, Two baby bodies, straight and strong, And lips as soft as mist. So if You heard a happy prayer Over shouts of glee, Accept, dear God, the grateful thanks, That it was meant to be. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY AUTUMN DIALOGUE by LOUIS UNTERMEYER SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 39 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
