MIDNIGHT: EARLY SUMMER, by JOSEPH CORSON MILLER First Line: Time softens to silk now Last Line: Is wrapped in prayer. Alternate Author Name(s): Miller, J. Corson Subject(s): Birds; Silence; Sleep; Summer; Time | ||||||||
Time softens to silk now, And the birds sleep On the hidden bough, Where the dark is deep. No more the sun plays His golden pranks, 'Twixt branched ways And cloud phalanx. In wave-like chimes Of silence flows The moon betimes, On trees in rows. No man need train Eyes near or far, To plumb the plain Of moon or star. Here Night, the queen Of grief and care, With mind serene, Is wrapped in prayer. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD FROM THIS HEIGHT by TONY HOAGLAND BALLAD OF SIMPLE SIMON by JOSEPH CORSON MILLER DAGONET MAKES A SONG FOR THE KING by JOSEPH CORSON MILLER EPICEDIUM; IN MEMORY OF AMERICA'S DEAD IN THE GREAT WAR by JOSEPH CORSON MILLER |
