BRIEF WORSHIP, by                    
First Line: So short a time they have
Last Line: They'd bark at god!

So short a time they have
Before life ends,
These dear companions,
These beloved friends --

So brief a while to frisk
In utter glee
Or droop in dire disgrace
Upon severity.

And man is somehow greater that,
For his one nod,
They'd scale the frowning heavens and
They'd bark at God!
