VALUES, by EVERARD ROY MOON First Line: A dew - drenched morning Last Line: When wrought in soul, is everlasting. Subject(s): Spiritual Life | ||||||||
A dew-drenched morning, A million pearls; Diamond-tipped leaves Startled by birds Drop their jewels on earth beneath, Transmuted there -- New wealth, new beauty. Spider webs, Jewel-studded lace, Sparkle in the morning light. The sun climbs high The eastern sky; The beauty fades, Its glory gone. O transitory world Where values live but for an hour, Hast thou no permanent wealth to give? Beauty faded, Glory gone -- But hold -- within my soul That dewy morn still lives; Diamonds and pearls, Jewels rare, No night so dark Their glory dims. Ah, my soul, is this The secret of true wealth? The material fades, The spiritual lives. Beauty in things is ever passing, When wrought in soul, is everlasting. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PROVISION FOR THE HIGHER OZONE BODY by WILL ALEXANDER 11/10 AGAIN by LUCILLE CLIFTON LEDA 3: A PERSONAL NOTE (RE: VISITATIONS) by LUCILLE CLIFTON A GRANDFATHER'S LAST LETTER by NORMAN DUBIE THE EVERLASTINGS; FOR L.P.
