STEEL AFTERGLOW, by BELLE CHAPMAN MORRILL First Line: Tonight a sky that might be rose Last Line: And little children shoes. | ||||||||
Tonight a sky that might be rose Is muddied by the flow Of smoky waves -- yet darkness brings Another afterglow. From ugly rows of towering flues, Rust-yellow flames arise, And lighted stairs of molten steel Thrust upward to the skies. Then angels in asbestos shod Descend through lurid hues To bring this dingy valley bread And little children shoes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNNAMED by BELLE CHAPMAN MORRILL BALLAD OF HUMAN LIFE by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES AURENG-ZEBE, OR THE GREAT MOGUL: PROLOGUE by JOHN DRYDEN ON EXPLORATION by JAMES GALVIN GASCOIGNE'S WOODMANSHIP by GEORGE GASCOIGNE THE EVE OF BANNOCKBURN by JOHN BARBOUR |
