First Line: How small and arrogantly safe that world
Last Line: Disclosed the continent of you.
Alternate Author Name(s): Cutter, Elizabeth Reeve
Subject(s): Maps; Mediterranean Sea

How small and arrogantly safe that world
Da Vinci loved and Polo knew!
Mothered by Mediterranean sands it curled
In lazy splendor where a Roman eagle flew.

So stood my heart, an empire of disdain,
Gibraltar, perched above smooth seas of blue,
Until horizons cracked in hurricane
Disclosed the continent of you.
