A CONTRAST, by DHAN GOPAL MUKERJI Poet's Biography First Line: The sunset puts a necklace of cloud-pearls Last Line: Thy smile-adorned face? Subject(s): Emotions; Rest | ||||||||
The sunset puts a necklace of cloud-pearls Around the neck of the West; Pink-blue veils, the gray mist weaves For the East seeking sleep and rest. Beyond the hills, the single star smiles like a blossoming flower, As the moon silently pours her lullaby of silver Into the ear of East, now fast asleep; While the West's golden fever burns away its only star. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DE LITTLE PICKANINNY'S GONE TO SLEEP by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON MOTHER NIGHT by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON BOY'S SLEEP by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE HOW FAR IS IT TO THE LAND WE LEFT? by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE IT'S NOT COLD HERE by ELEANOR WILNER SUPPLICATION by JOSEPH SEAMON COTTER JR.
