HUNTING CHORUS, by GEORGE MURRAY (19TH CENTURY) First Line: Hark! Thro' the woods rings the hunter's horn Last Line: The jubilant ring of the hunter's horn! Subject(s): Hunting; Hunters | ||||||||
HARK! thro' the woods rings the Hunter's Horn, From slumber rousing the drowsy morn! The echoes rebound from the distant hills And blend with the songs of a thousand rills; The birds are up on the tireless wing, And the woods with unnumber'd paeans ring. Our pulses beat quick at the hounds' loud bay, And the Horn is ringing! Away, away! Ho! ho! how the plodders of earth we scorn As we bound to the sound of the joyous Horn! The Horn! The Horn! The wild thrilling notes of the Hunter's Horn! Rings out the Horn yet again, Hurrah! We've willing steeds and a noble prey. We dash along over hill and glen, And heed not the shouts of excited men: We wait not for riders who lag behind, For on speeds the prey like the sweeping wind; But, tho' he be fleet as the rushing blast, We'll run him in triumph to earth at last. Then hark! what exultant sounds are borne To the joyous bands by the pealing Horn! The Horn! The Horn! The jubilant ring of the Hunter's Horn! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LAMENT OF QUARRY by LEONIE ADAMS KILLDEER by KENNETH SLADE ALLING THE YOUNG FOWLER THAT MISTOOK HIS GAME by PHILIP AYRES A POEM ABOUT THE HOUNDS AND THE HARES by LISEL MUELLER HAPPY DREAMS BE THINE! by GEORGE MURRAY (19TH CENTURY) |
