THE LONESOME HILL, by LILLIAS C. NEVIN First Line: Low I hear the night wind Last Line: Past the lonesome hill. Subject(s): Mountains; Solitude; Hills; Downs (great Britain); Loneliness | ||||||||
Low I hear the night wind Round the wintry eaves, Calling back its joy-time Like a heart that grieves. 'Tis a voice of Nature Sounding in my ear, Bidding me remember, Sighing out its fear; Life and Love are parted, But they hold me still, As I follow visions Up the lonesome hill. Always one beside me Though I walk alone; In my heart is sounding Ever one sweet tone; So I look not backward O'er the length'ning years -- 'Tis the sunset gateway That the vision clears -- 'Tis the glory throbbing Through the twilight chill -- There where Love is waiting Past the lonesome hill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES ODE ON THE POPULAR SUPERSTITIONS OF THE HIGHLANDS OF SCOTLAND by WILLIAM COLLINS (1721-1759) |
