PITY THE SEA, by
First Line: Pity not the little pines upon these sun-white dunes
Last Line: Clasping and unclasping impotent hands.
Subject(s): Sea; Ocean

Pity not the little pines upon these sun-white dunes,
That, bending shoreward, fend the reach of the sea;
There are no foamy fingers of any green water
That ever can possess them utterly.

Pity rather the blustering sea that spends its fury
In futile squandering on indifferent sands,
A giant shackled forever to a pale moon woman,
Clasping and unclasping impotent hands.
