PITY THE SEA, by NOLANNE O'HAIR First Line: Pity not the little pines upon these sun-white dunes Last Line: Clasping and unclasping impotent hands. Subject(s): Sea; Ocean | ||||||||
Pity not the little pines upon these sun-white dunes, That, bending shoreward, fend the reach of the sea; There are no foamy fingers of any green water That ever can possess them utterly. Pity rather the blustering sea that spends its fury In futile squandering on indifferent sands, A giant shackled forever to a pale moon woman, Clasping and unclasping impotent hands. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1) by GILBERT KEITH CHESTERTON RELIGIO LAICI; OR, A LAYMAN'S FAITH by JOHN DRYDEN THE MOURNING-GARMENT: THE SHEPHERD'S WIFE'S SONG by ROBERT GREENE |
