THE EVERLASTING HILLS, by BESSIE WILLIAMS OSMAN First Line: Down in dear old indiana Last Line: In the everlasting hills. Subject(s): Courage; Indiana; Valor; Bravery | ||||||||
Down in dear old Indiana, Where the everlasting hills Bid us lift our eyes unto the skies Whence comes the strength that fills Our fainting souls with courage When the way seems dark and long, And that softly steals away our cares And leaves, instead, a song. Down in dear old Indiana Where the everlasting hills Overlook a winding river Whose beauty charms and thrills. In autumn's golden glory, Through April's buds and rills, There is beauty, radiant beauty, In the everlasting hills. And I love them! How I love them! There's no spot on earth I know, Whate'er its charms, could tempt me From these hills and vales to go; And when I'm through with earthly things And death my beings stills, I want to wait God's coming In the everlasting hills. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNLESS IT WAS COURAGE by MARVIN BELL THE QUALITY OF COURAGE by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET ON THE OREGON COAST; FOR WILLIAM STAFFORD by ROBERT BLY WORDS WITH WALLACE STEVENS by ROBERT BLY BUFFALO CLOUDS OVER THE MAESTRO HOON by NORMAN DUBIE A SONG OF COURAGE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE AUDACIOUS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON OH, THE WATER by DORIANNE LAUX AUGUST FIRST by HAYDEN CARRUTH FICTION by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON TO WHISTLER, AMERICAN; ON LOAN EXHIBIT OF PAINTINGS AT TATE GALLERY by EZRA POUND |
