REALITIES, by MAUDE CHATEAUNEUF OVERTON First Line: Through all the ages on this mundane sphere Last Line: Are manifest realities sublime! Subject(s): Reality | ||||||||
Through all the ages on this mundane sphere Have mortals sensed the supernatural near, And felt strange intuitions fathomless From God or gods or cosmic consciousness, Or unseen forces, universal mind -- A force that brings impressions undefined, Inspiring fear of some omnipotence -- Of the eternal mind's omnipresence. Since beings on so many varied planes Have felt the truth that unseen power reigns And sends to man these winged thoughts divine, They must be sent with heavenly design. Though men with heads bent downward may condemn, And doubting, with dull minds, may scoff at them, What some have called illusions through all time Are manifest realities sublime! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JASON THE REAL by TONY HOAGLAND APPEARANCE AND REALITY by JOHN HOLLANDER A WORKING PRINCIPLE by DAVID IGNATOW THE REVOLUTIONARY by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN REAL AND HALF REAL by ROBINSON JEFFERS ONLY IN DEATH by MAUDE CHATEAUNEUF OVERTON |
