EUTOPIA, by FRANCIS TURNER PALGRAVE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: There is a garden where lilies Last Line: Or the songs of the butterflies be. Subject(s): Utopia | |||
THERE is a garden where lilies And roses are side by side; And all day between them in silence The silken butterflies glide. I may not enter the garden, Though I know the road thereto; And morn by morn to the gateway I see the children go. They bring back light on their faces; But they cannot bring back to me What the lilies say to the roses, Or the songs of the butterflies be. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE NEW HUDIBRAS by CHARLES WILLIAM BRODRIBB UTOPIA by VINCENT WILLIAM MALLEY A REASONABLE CONSTITUTION by HERMAN MELVILLE ERUPTION IN UTOPIA by GENEVIEVE TAGGARD THE BOOK OF THE DEAD: THE OTHER WORLD by ANONYMOUS IN A COPY OF MORE'S (OR SHAW'S OR WELL'S OR PLATO'S) UTOPIA by HENRY MAXIMILIAN BEERBOHM A LITTLE CHILD'S HYMN; FOR NIGHT AND MORNING by FRANCIS TURNER PALGRAVE A CHILD'S EVENING HYMN by FRANCIS TURNER PALGRAVE A DANISH BARROW; ON THE EAST DEVON COAST by FRANCIS TURNER PALGRAVE |
