Red hand, black heart, beast with the dragon's face; Thou hundred-headed horror breathing death And dole across the fair world's rounded space, Blurring the wholesome sun with tainted breath, Back to thine ancient slime, blind whelp of wrath! Amid the dragons of the prime, thy place; Thy law the lust of tooth and claw; thy path, Like Lucifer's to gaping Hell's embrace! Black heart, red hand smiting her queenly breast, Thinking in rabid rage to rend the law, Blind as the snarling tiger in his quest For prey; from her spent blood shall Justice draw Swift strength to hurl upon thy viper's nest The outraged nations' deep anathema! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WIFE OF FERGUS; A MONODRAMA by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE THE FATE OF MAXIMILIAN OF MEXICO AND HIS EMPRESS by JANET HAMILTON AGESILAO MILANO; NAPLES, 1856 by HARRIET ELEANOR HAMILTON (BAILLE) KING THE TOMBS OF THE REGICIDES: LUDLOW AND BROUGHTON by SILAS WEIR MITCHELL INSCRIPTION FOR THE APARTMENT [OR PRISON] IN CHEPSTOW CASTLE by ROBERT SOUTHEY SINGING OF ANCIENT TIMES by WU XIAO A FABLE FOR LYDIA by CONDE BENOIST PALLEN A SONG OF SIXPENCE by CONDE BENOIST PALLEN |
